I decided to review Doctor Stranger even though it’s already too late because it causes so much disturbance in my Kdrama routine. If I’ll rate this series, story-wise, I can’t even include this in my top 15 best dramas. Honestly, I have second thoughts if I’m gonna recommend this to anyone. I still have to see the ending before I’ll decide if this drama is worth anyone’s time. As of this writing there are 2 more episodes to go until the finale. This series will end next week, Tuesday night.
Though I enjoyed the medical suspense part, the utterly obvious plot holes, illogical character development, and ridiculous storyline are just too much. I can’t even blame those people who sputter profanities and rude comments against this series, because same as me, they are also just hugely disappointed. (The only two major aspects that redeemed this drama are the main actors and actresses performance and its cinematography.) But, why do I waste so much time watching this if I hate it a lot?
Actually, I just discovered that you can really hate a drama and still continue to watch it because you are quite interested on how all the craziness will end. Also, if weird things occur – such as you, rooting for the 2nd female lead for the first time in your over a decade of voraciously consuming “gazillion” of drama series, you just couldn’t stop because it is such a bloody mystery that needs to be solved.
The Sizzling Chemistry between Park Hoon and Oh Soo Hyun
I am shockingly one of those thousands of delusional fans who are shipping Park Hoon and Oh Soo Hyun to end up together. So weird because in my over a decade of watching Kdramas I never shipped a 2nd female lead but DS breaks this record. This is a history in the making! Lol! In my over a decade of watching Asian dramas, this is the very first bloody time that I love the 2nd female lead character (Oh Soo Hyun) and hate the first female lead (Jae Hee). I root for Soo Hyun like a lunatic that I want Jae Hee to disappear for good. Hahahaha! (My attachment to these fictional characters are getting weirder and weirder.)
Jae Hee is Leaving Hoon Soon and Tells Soo Hyun that He Loves Her
In episode 17, I had finally deciphered Jae Hee’s ultimate intention. All along I’ve been doubting her motives for coming to South Korea. Her role as a North Korean spy (who is in cahoots with the Prime Minister to put the President in coma) has a very clear mission to fulfill, and rekindling her romantic interest to Park Hoon is just part of the show to finish it. Poor Hoon.
Jae Hee’s confession to Soo Hyun that she will be leaving soon confirmed my suspicion that there’s a higher probability that the ending of this series won’t veer away from the original ending in the book (Doctor Stranger is based in a best-seller book – Northern Doctor). In the book, Park Hoon will end up with Soo Hyun. I just wish that they’ll incorporate a time jump, and later on we’ll see Hoon and Soo Hyun happy together as a couple and are successful in their career as thoracic surgeons.
In this episode, Jae Hee also told Soo Hyun that Hoon is the reason why her father died. That Hoon killed her father to save her and she’s not sure anymore if she can still continue loving him despite all the things that happened between them. She then told Hyun that Hoon really loves her and he just hasn’t realized it yet. She asked Soo Hyun to wait for him because later on Hoon would eventually realize his feelings.
It’s clear as blue sky now that Jae Hee has no intention in staying with Hoon after her mission. She said that she will be going back to Japan. Her coldness to Hoon in this episode mirrors her reactions in that flash back scene in episode 5 (Hoon chasing her inside the hospital while she intentionally avoided him). Her facial expressions in that scene showed contempt and disgust towards Park Hoon. Jae Hee’s pretense has now been shattered. Oh, YEAH!
Singapore is indeed a very expensive city. But, I did manage to travel there (with my hubby) on a “budget”. One of the difficult things I had to do before our trip was the search for the most affordable room. Since my hubby doesn’t want us to check-in in motels or dormitory type inns, I had to look for a hotel that has private rooms.
Grand C Hotel at 165 Kitchener’s Road
In Agoda, this hotel only garnered a 5.9 (above average) rating. This is really too low considering that I have never booked a hotel here in our country with ratings lower than 6.0. I tried to look for hotels with higher ratings but they are just too expensive. There are cheaper ones but they are mostly located in Geylang, a known red light district in Singapore. Thus, I have no other choice but to book for Grand C Hotel (4 nights & 5 days). In most cases, I would never book for one if most of the reviews in Agoda are negative, but I just had to because I can’t find any other options that are more affordable.
The Good Stuff
Booking in Grand C Hotel means value for money, central location, very fast WiFi connection, and good service (in my case, I met a very friendly grandpa staff who took good care of our room and things for 5 days). Value for money because you get what you’ve paid for (Singapore standard). Centrally located because it’s walking distance from Farrer Park (train station), Metro City Square and Mustafa malls, and there are a lot of small restaurants surrounding the area, thus you can easily grab foods whenever you’re hungry.
I was very happy with the excellent speed of their WiFi connection, considering that they are the cheapest of cheapest hotels in the area. And, of course, I had a chance knowing a local Singaporean through the very friendly maintenance grandpa who are fond of chitchatting.
The Bad Stuff
If you are very meticulous when it comes to cleanliness, then this is not the hotel for you. If you hate small rooms and the smell of herbs, then don’t stay in this hotel. If you like to be treated like a VIP, then stay away from Grand C Hotel. In short, this hotel is ideal for backpackers and travelers who only stay in a hotel to sleep.
Don’t expect extra frills or any kinds of add-on services. You get what you paid for. Cheap accommodation in Singapore is not at par in quality when compared to affordable hotels here in our country. Affordable hotels here in our country offer better accommodation and service despite the fact that their rates are around 60% lower than those cheap ones in SG.
We stayed in Grand C Hotel for 5 days and 4 nights (Superior Room – No Window) but most of the time, we only slept there. We spent most of our time outside sight-seeing and discovering the wonders of the small city. For our 4-night accommodation, we paid a total of USD201.76 ( or Php8,675.68). This is definitely the cheapest of the cheapest (and I’m not exaggerating on this). For regular hotels, you have to pay USD200 plus per night. At Grand C Hotel, we only paid USD50.44 per night. And take note that I got this deal because Agoda had a 50% promo. So this means that the original rate is USD100.88. Here in our country, you can already book a 3 to 4 stars hotel for that amount.
Would I go back to Grand C Hotel if I will travel back to SG sometime in the future? Yes. Despite the cons, I still feel that the pros outweigh the bad stuff. I highly recommend this to fellow budget travelers.

DON’T do Helmet Diving if you have ear and heart problems. Also, if you have high blood pressure, you are not allowed to do it as it be very risky.
I apologize if I need to emphasize those serious health risks in this blog post. I was quite unaware of them myself before we arrived in the diving site. My mother who has high blood pressure was out-rightly prohibited when the diving instructors knew her condition. Min0tte, on the other hand, tried to dive but she gave up because she experienced unbearable pain in her ears (caused by the pressure from the tank) when she was hoisted down.
The Fun Part
How Much It Cost?
Helmet Diving is one of least expensive activities in Boracay. We paid Php350.00 per head for 40 minutes. I managed to get a lesser rate by scouting for prizes first. The first agent who I met offered Php450. Note that rates/prizes vary a lot. If you are a foreigner then the prize is 500% higher. Frugal Tip: You can haggle for lesser rate if you are in a group of 10 or more. The more people you are with, the higher chance of getting an affordable rate.
Is it Worth the Cost and Risks?
It’s really worth it but this kind of activity is better done in diving sites with lots of corals and marine sceneries. If you haven’t tried it yet, be warned that the helmet weigh 25 kilos (but this won’t be a problem anymore once you are underwater) . Also, you should know how to equalize your breathing when you are hoisted down. You’ll also experience an initial pain (due to the tank’s pressure) while you are going down to the ocean floor.
I highly recommend this activity to groups as it is more fun feeding fishes together with lots of people around you. It’s actually unfortunate that Mama and MinOtte weren’t able to join us. But, nevertheless, it was really a very memorable and fun experience. (:
The day we returned here in Cebu from our Manila trip, dude and I already decided that we’ll eat at Sutukil. The fact that I’ve already went to Sutukil (a seafood restaurant near Capitol) made me think that we’ll be dining at a nice restaurant with fresh and sumptuous seafood dishes in the menu. But, the next thing that happened to our food trip in Lapu-lapu is contrary to what I was expecting.
The Foursquare Search
Since I have no idea where Sutukil is located in Lapu-lapu, I used Foursquare to search for its specific location. I found out that it is located near Mactan Shrine. Note: I had no idea that the one I found in Foursquare is not the restaurant that I was looking.
When we arrived at the place, I was a bit shocked because it was absolutely contrary to what I expected. I was expecting the same Sutukil resto, the one we dined in a few years ago for my friend’s birthday celebration.
The moment we stepped out of the taxi, we were immediately mobbed by men, each of them was convincing us to choose their Sutukil resto. Another man, offered us umbrella to avoid the heat of the sun. I was like – is this a joke? Are we lost? And then the truth just sank in. We were indeed at Sutukil but it is not the resto where I dined in a few years ago. ):
SuTuKil Restaurants in Lapu-lapu
The SuTuKil in Lapu-lapu is a cluster of locally-owned small restaurants that offer the famous Cebu dishes – Su (Sugba), Tu (Tuwa), Kil (Kilaw). I was actually a bit disappointed when we arrived at the actual area. While the the salesmen were busy convincing us to check each of the resto they represented, I can’t help but feel a sense of dread – something inside my head was telling me to leave and look for another place to eat. But, before I can make a decision, my mouth had already spoken. I’ve already told the “salesman” that we will be dining at their resto because it had a second floor and has a view by the beach.
This is how the Sutukil restaurants look like. The unfortunate thing is until now I still can’t recall the name of the resto where we dined in.
I tried to search for some photos online and I got this one. Still, I’m not sure if this is the resto. All I can remember is the cashier area that is decorated by seashells. I only managed to take photos of the inside. See pictures below.
This is how the inside looks like. We were going to the 2nd floor because we were being promised of a good lunch view there.
But it was not what I expected. Though the place is airy and has a good view of the beach, it smells muddy and surrounded by hostile people and children begging for money from the guests. But, all these downsides shouldn’t have mattered if the foods are good and if they are fairly priced.
The Rip Off Menu
Though this story may seem a bit sad but we actually have a very hearty lunch. Part of our laugh trip were the unsuspecting Koreans (who also got ripped off big time – no idea how much they have paid but I’m quite sure the rate is higher than ours). We were also serenaded by a group of in-house “band” who also asked for a payment for their 10-minute show.
Moving on, after having so much fun, criticizing our food and our lunch neighbors, we got the shock of our lives when the bill arrived. The total cost of our lunch is Php1, 500 plus. I can’t recall the exact total cost but that’s the very close estimate. WTF! I can’t believe I’ll be paying this amount over a 3-course menu and a side dish in a local restaurant situated in a shanty place, smelly muddy beach, hostile people all over the area, and worst, a facility that’s only at par with ordinary “Karenderya” (tiny restaurants in street corners). Below are the photos of the foods that we ordered.
This is Mud Crab in Chilli Sauce. We only had four of this because I felt (when I ordered) the price for each crab is super expensive.
Though it tastes good, my friend commented that the sauce is purely made from ketchup. The other two of my companions echoed the same opinion.
There’s really nothing special with this grilled fish. I have no fucking idea why it cost us a lot. This is from the fish that I ordered. The waiter/cook in the counter offered us that they will grill half of the fish and they will make a “tinula” of the other half.
This is the rip off Tinula that they served. The head of the fish is like an omen that foretells our ominous fate. ):
The Kinilaw na Gusu which normally costs Php10 to 30 at local Karenderyas cost us a lot in this food trip. How fucking great is that? Because I get so agitated after looking at the receipt, I forgot to keep it after we exited from that bloody restaurant. The only thing that I can’t forget is the additional payments they asked us for the cooking service – Mad Crab Chilli Sauce Cooking Fee, Fish Tinula Cooking Fee, and Grilled Fish Cooking Fee. Each payment costs at least Php80.00 (that’s a chicken meal in KFC already!!!).
Normally, I really don’t complain about food prices if it is fairly priced. Like those restaurants in IT Park and Ayala Terraces that offer good ambiance, service, and of course a menu that is jam-packed with sumptuous dishes. But, this one I really can’t just let go. The place is awful, the food is so-so, and the pricing is a BIG rip off!!! No wonder we were the only guests (except the Koreans) on that day.
Please, please, please. For your own wallet and palate sake, avoid this Sutukil Restaurants near Mactan Shrine. For affordable yet super delectable seafood dishes you can try AA BBQ and Neo-Neo.
Dude and I often look for affordable Japanese restaurants and we were amazed at what we found when we visited MOA a few weeks ago. This Japanese resto is actually located beside J.CO store, the doughnut shop that I was talking in my previous post. Look at how bloody affordable their menu is.
Their prices are around 20% lower compared to Tokyo Joe’s (another Japanese resto where dude and I go to here in Cebu). I was really in the mood to eat a lot when we were on our way. But, my friggin’ migraine has stolen my appetite the moment we entered the store. ): Nevertheless, I really enjoyed their California Maki and their Beef Yakiniku.
California Maki is my all-time favorite Japanese dish. My Japanese meal is not complete without it. This set is priced at P59.00. Super cheap!! (:
Each Bento is comprised of a soup, an appetizer, the main dish, rice, and a dessert. Their Bentos are priced from P159.00 to P179.00. Really affordable compared to other Japanese restaurants I’ve been to.
We’ll definitely go back to this resto in our next trip to Manila. (:
MYOH 2013 in Cebu on July 18 to 21
For all Cebuano havaianaticos and fashionistas, the yearly Make Your Own Havaianas starts today, July 18 and will run until July 21 at SM Northwing Atrium (during mall hours). Head to SM City and customize your new pair of Havs now!
My Honest Review
Since 2010, I’ve been attending the annual Make Your Own Havaianas Special Preview event here in Cebu. Though I’m not a fashionista (and definitely not a brand conscious person), I still enjoy some fine things especially if I don’t need to buy them. (: In all honesty, of all the flip-flops brands I’ve known, Havaianas really has a very good branding, and like some elite brands, a lot of people are more than willing to buy it because it’s chic and highly fashionable. Other than that, who would not dream of buying something that is being worn by famous celebrities and socialites?
Cool and trendy
The cool/trendy factor plays a big role why Havaianas is very saleable. This has been heightened even more by the brand’s annual activity that brings havaianaticos together – the Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH). The brand pioneers the slipper customization trend which has been wholeheartedly embraced by fashionistas and trendsetters all over the globe. Now, who doesn’t want a pair of his or her own Havaianas?
Cute pins and colorful straps
These accessories bring more life and individuality to each pair of Havs – one of the main reasons why the brand is more appealing compared to other fashionable flip-flops.
Not ideal for everyday use
As the brand suggested, Havaianas is more of a fashion item than normal footwear. When it comes to durability, there’s no guarantee that it will last for a year or two especially when it comes to the flip-flops’ straps. Though its flat soles provide better comfort compared to ordinary sandals, its straps are not that durable, and thus, it is not ideal to wear it regularly. Two of my pairs have already been thrown out because the front straps broke and there’s no way that they can be repaired. ): This is also the feedback I often heard from some of my friends. I hope Havaianas can do something with the straps. The soles are really comfortable and it’s a shame to throw them because of the damaged straps.
I highly recommend Havaianas to all fashionistas and brand conscious individuals out there, but for those ones who are looking for flip-flops that they can wear regularly (more especially to those who love to walk most of the time), then this brand is not for you. (:
Update: Sorry for this very late notification. I had only used the product for around 3 days, after that I stopped. I can’t tolerate the smell. My younger sister was the one who continued taking it.
Update: It indeed had lighten up my sister’s skin but she doesn’t want to continue taking it because of its smell.
When I publish something here in my blog, I always consider first the validity of my post and if what I’m posting is the truth and if it would really benefit my readers and visitors. I don’t just recommend anything just because I get this and that but because I’m really satisfied of what I found out or what I saw.
I’m really very critical when it comes to buying products. Like for example, if I saw some whitening commercial on TV and the one who endorses the product is some mestiza model, obviously, I would be a fool if I will fall for that crap. Unfortunately, most people won’t even bother to analyze that there is no truth to that bloody advertisement…that mestiza models were born with white skins. And this goes as well with those friggin’ shampoo commercials we see on TV everyday. I’ll be damned if those salon-smooth and silky hair can be attained by using a 5-peso per sachet shampoo.
Last week, I was being invited (along with my CBSi pals) by Mosbeau Cebu to try out their Placenta White Food Supplement. Mosbeau promises a fairer skin after 30-days or even 14-days. According to them, their Placenta White product is enriched with placental protein, a popular whitening and anti-aging ingredient in Japan. Placenta White is also composed of collagen, a potent anti-aging ingredient that enhances skin’s elasticity to help fight the unsightly signs of skin aging such as wrinkles and fine lines. Glutathione, Vitamin C and Asparagus extract complete the skin-whitening and anti-aging combo of Placenta White.
Since I’m quite intrigued how effective this product is, I accepted this 30-day whitening challenge. I posted above my photo taken on the very first day I started taking the supplement. I will be posting another photo after 30-days. If this product is effective, then I will be recommending this to all my morena-skinned friends and visitors who wanted to have fairer and younger looking skin.
By the way, just for the record, I’m not really so obsessed with this skin-whitening phenomenon among Asian women. I only do this to help my co-specie in selecting better and effective products. Check this blog after 30 days. Ja mata ne, minna san. (;
Mosbeau started to venture in the Philippines in early 2008. Mosbeau prescription-strength skin-whitening and anti-aging and skin care products were exclusively offered by dermatologists from different parts of the country, soon making it available in clinics nationwide and one of the most recommended products by dermatologists. (More about Mosbeau after 30 days…(;)
The beach front
I’ve never been to a resort here in Cebu wherein you can instantly see the beach front even if you are still standing at the entrance door of the main building. It is only at Be Resorts (formerly known as Microtel) that I immediately see one, spruced with Greek-like architecture, carpeted with man-made white sands.
Be Resorts’ main reception area is covered with glass walls and lavishly decorated with Kenneth Cobonpue’s artworks. Yeah, you read it right. Kenneth Cobonpue’s.
Despite the affordable rate, which by the way, is now as low as Php 3000 (net twin sharing with breakfast), I think Be Resorts put justice in the word grandeur. From their cool activity center, executive function rooms, comfortable and refreshing bedrooms, enticing pool to limb twisting kayaking (which I enjoyed a lot), it is one great beach destination here in Cebu especially if you wanted to feel like you are in Greece. (:
Be Resorts is nestled in Punta Engaño, Mactan Island. It is located minutes away from the Mactan International Airport and easily accessible via the Marcelo B. Fernan bridge. For booking and reservations, contact the Cebu Sales and Reservations Office, Punta Engaño Road, Mactan Island, Cebu 6015, Philippines. Telephone: (6332) 2368888 local 8800 (Sales); local 8832 (Reservations). Fax: (6332) 236 8088. Email: sales-mactan#beresorts.com. Website: www.beresorts.com.
N.B.: The Php 3000 net twin sharing is a local summer promor rate. Limited rooms only.

That’s the very first question that popped up in my head when Nancy Cudis and Max Limpag of Sunstar News invited a few CBS members to attend the product launching of Neo’s EDGE laptops, the thinnest laptop/netbook in the country. The EDGE is 0.87 inch thick while MacBook Air is 0.76. Basing from this single specification, it is obvious that the latter is thinner. But, the thickness is not really that important. What I’m up to is how functional and economical it is.
While some people would definitely prefer MacBook Air because of its unquestionable functionality, many would still go for Neo’s line up of ultra thin laptops not just because of the obvious reason that it’s affordable, but because it has superior functionality that is at par with those expensive ones in the market.
Why would you buy a very expensive MacBook Air when you can have almost the same functionality and style with Neo’s latest offering, the EDGE series, the ultra slim netbook which has beyond cutting edge mobility features? With the global recession and all, we must be cautious enough in spending our hard-earned money.
The Neo EDGE line of ultra-portables were carefully designed to strike an amazing balance between utra-portability and performance. This series has three exciting models that would surely fit the fast-paced lifestyle of the users in the information technology age.

- EDGE Z3260 – Specs include an Intel Pentium processor SU4100 processor (2 MB L2 cache, 1.30 GHz, 800 MHz), genuine Windows 7 Home Basic operating system, 2 GB DDR3 of memory, 13.3″ High-Definition LCD monitor, 320 GB SATA of hard disk drive, has bluetooth connectivity and Wifi ready. Devastated by the very unfortunate twist of event last 21st of August, I decided not to shop in that mall for a while. Well, I’m referring to that most heartbreaking moment when my precious bag was stolen by some heartless homosapien inside McDonald’s at Ayala Mall, Cebu. I won’t elaborate more about the incident because I will write a separate entry about it. It’s just very unfortunate that all my personal belongings were stolen along with my bag.
That is one of the reasons why I opted to shop online these days. Because of that incident I was left with no ATM and credit cards up to now.
