Allyson(to Merideth): Hi! I’m Allyson Shepherd. And you must be the woman who has been screwing my husband!

The very last secret has been revealed. That’s episode 9, season 1 of Grey’s Anatomy. I just finished watching 9 bloody episodes and it was great, great, great. The series is hilarious, the theme is sexy and sassy and everything cheeky. All the leading characters are awesome. George, the shy-type-kindhearted-funny intern who has been smitten by Merideth since the start of the story; Christina, the Korean-hot-tempered-intelligent-brutally frank intern who got her attending surgeon between her thighs; Miss Stevens(I forgot her first name), the model-surgeon who has an amazing pair of asses and a very compassionate heart; Alex, the chick-boy-the original syphilis carrier who is so hateful, boastful, overconfident and all craps; Dr. Burke, the handsome colored surgeon who has been secretly hitting the sack with his intern; Dr. Shepherd (everybody’s saying he’s bloody handsome but he’s not my type…hahahaha!), an attending surgeon who had a one-night stand with his intern and became her lover; and Merideth, the anatomy of drawing-lines-and-crossing-those-lines who turned out to be screwing a married man. Hahahaha! Well, her character is lovable. I cannot help but love her bedroom voice and she doesn’t look her age. Way to go…

Risk Addiction

I can’t get enough with Basic Instinct 2. If you haven’t watched the movie yet then you should watch it as soon as possible.  It is in that movie I first heard of the word “Risk Addiction“. Sharon Stone played the role of a risk-addict novelist who would do anything to quench her thirst for risky stuff, like finger-fucking while driving her car (risk of getting caught and risk of having a brutal road accident), paying a man-whore for sex and a secret gang-bang or orgy) (risk of having a disease, being caught by people, risk of social isolation ), committing sexual-oriented crimes (risk of getting caught by the police, risk of going to prison), and a lot more.

Sharon Stone’s character in the movie is unstoppable and she has the drive to do anything she wants. She even manages to manipulate her psychoanalyst and make him believe that he’s a psychotic. I think the movie exaggerates a lot in that part. I mean in the real world, the psychoanalyst should not be that attached to his patient. In the story Sharon Stone manages to lure him using her erotic sexual charms.

So, what’s with risk-addicts anyway? They are individuals who have high dopamine and serotonin on their bloody brains. Dopamine and serotonin are neurotransmitters which are responsible of the occurrence of various attitudes which turned out to become the basis of personality development. The level of these brain chemicals can determine if an individual is compulsive or impulsive, easy-going or independent and the likes. Risk-addicts have high level of serotonin, this means their brains need high level of stimulation before they can feel satisfaction or before they can feel anything.

People who are into danger-seeking activities like bungee jumping, mountain climbing, drug abuse, sex abuse, and the likes are risk-addicts. Their lives are defined on how they outwitted risks and winked at death. The common cause of this addiction is the fear of boredom. People who have high levels of dopamine cannot just sit in the corner and wait for someone to come. They are the ones who go out and seek for fun. So, are you a risk-addict?

What is HPV? It’s an incurable STD that infect about 40% of sexually active individuals in the county. HPV stands for Human Papilloma Viruses. I incidentally read about this in a mag somewhere in Ayala. The common symptom or sign that you are contaminated with this virus is the appearance of warts in your genitals. I googled and found this…

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are common viruses that can cause warts. There are more than 100 types of HPV. Most are harmless, but about 30 types put you at risk for cancer. These types affect the genitals and you get them through sexual contact with an infected partner. They are classified as either low-risk or high-risk. Low-risk HPV can cause genital warts. High-risk HPV can lead to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, and anus in women. In men, it can lead to cancers of the anus and penis.

6 days to go before Christmas…

The days just flew by and now it’s only 6 more sleeps to go before Christmas, the most joyous holiday celebration of the country. Hmmmn…am not really that excited…I mean we don’t have any noche buena and the likes at home. We eat the foods we prepared during dinnertime and most of us are asleep during the midnight. We go to church in the morning and that’s it. For this Christmas papa said we’ll just go out and eat in a restaurant downtown. I don’t fancy any luxurious gifts and the likes. To have my family around is more than enough.

We will have our block christmas party this coming Thursday in Carmen. Hmmmn…Let’s see what’s in there…It would be the very fist time that all the dusty-foot creatures in our block decided to have an amicable gathering…ahehehe…The name of the place is kept secret to avoid paparazzis…hahahahahaha…we’re quite popular you know…LMAO…

By the way, here’s a sizzling holiday treat for your eyes to feast…oooppss…be careful you’re the one who will be eaten by that one…hahahahaha…

And here’s more interesting facts on Christmas that would arouse your interest…

1. In the Ukraine, if you find a spider web in the house on Christmas morning, it is believed to be a harbinger of good luck! There once lived a woman so poor, says a Ukrainian folk tale, that she could not afford Christmas decorations for her family. One Christmas morning, she awoke to find that spiders had trimmed her children’s tree with their webs. When the morning sun shone on them, the webs turned to silver and gold. An artificial spider and web are often included in the decorations on Ukrainian Christmas trees.

2. At Christmas, it is traditional to exchange kisses beneath the mistletoe tree. In ancient Scandinavia, mistletoe was associated with peace and friendship. That may account for the custom of “kissing beneath the mistletoe”.

3. ‘Klaxon’ is a name that does not belong to one of Santa’s reindeer. A klaxon is actually a powerful electric horn. Its name comes from a German word meaning “shriek”.

4. In many households, part of the fun of eating Christmas pudding is finding a trinket that predicts your fortune for the coming year. For instance, finding a coin means you will become wealthy. A ring means you will get married; while a button predicts bachelorhood. The idea of hiding something in the pudding comes from the tradition in the Middle Ages of hiding a bean in a cake that was served on Twelfth Night. Whoever found the bean became “king” for the rest of the night.

5. Frumenty was a spiced porridge, enjoyed by both rich and poor. It was a forerunner of modern Christmas puddings. It is linked in legend to the Celtic god Dagda, who stirred a porridge made up of all the good things of the earth.

Ethical Problems in Psychology

This is the common dilemma faced by many Psychologists as they practice their profession and do their research in the field. We always tackle this topic every time we think of designing an experiment in our Experimental Psychology class. Our experiments should put the safety first of our subjects before it will be conducted. There has been lots of complaints and protests on how the field had exploit, humiliate, used, and even to the point torture innocent subjects just for the sake of acquiring information. I just read an article about this and I’m quite saddened how the author of the article expressed his sentiments.

Torture, Psychology and Ethics in APA

You may or may not have read about recent protests of the APA and its stance on psychologists engaged in torture. On the one hand, it sounds as though the APA has taken a strong position against psychologists being involved in torture. The APA’s press release states that psychologists are prohibited from a long list of tactics, including “mock execution; water-boarding or any other form of simulated drowning or suffocation; sexual humiliation; rape; cultural or religious humiliation; exploitation of phobias or psychopathology; induced hypothermia; and the use of psychotropic drugs or mind-altering substances for the purpose of eliciting information. In addition, the following acts were banned for the purpose of eliciting information in an interrogations process: hooding; forced nakedness; stress positions; the use of dogs to threaten or intimidate; physical assault including slapping or shaking; exposure to extreme heat or cold; threats of harm or death; and isolation and/or sleep deprivation used in a manner that represents significant pain or suffering or in a manner that a reasonable person would judge to cause lasting harm; or the threatened use of any of the above techniques to the individual or to members of the individual’s family.”

And yet I have read, in many different sources, that the APA’s position is more equivocal than it sounds. The resolution passed at the August 07 APA council meeting allows psychologists to assist with interrogations in their work, even when the interrogations might not protect the prisoner’s rights. The rationale that I heard for this, from APA leadership at the August meeting, is that the APA leadership believes that the presence of a psychologist can protect the prisoner’s rights. The APA asserts that being involved in the process helps to protect prisoners. Critics decry such logic as naive, and say that it disregards what we know about social psychological processes.

I am sad to say that I am more persuaded by the critics than by the APA, and I am considering resigning from the APA.
